1. Who we are

FredSky ("the app," "we," "us") is a personal astronomy app for iPhone. It is not a commercial service: there are no accounts, no ads, no analytics for marketing, and no data brokers. Your information is never sold, rented, or shared with third parties for their own purposes, and nothing you do in the app is used to track you across other apps or websites.

2. Information the app uses

FredSky has no sign-up and asks for nothing about your identity — no name, no email, no account. It uses only what it needs to work:

• Location (precise, while using the app) — used on your device to compute exactly which stars, planets, and satellites are overhead and to aim the camera overlay. When you identify a bird, your coordinates are sent together with the recording so the identifier can weight the result by region and season. Location is only accessed while the app is open, is never tracked in the background, and is never stored on our servers.
• Bird-song audio — when you tap record in the Birds area, a short recording (about 20 seconds) is sent to our server to identify the species. It is deleted from the server the moment identification finishes; it is not retained, not linked to you, and never shared.
• Camera — the point-and-look sky mode overlays labels on the live camera view. The video stays on your device; no images are captured, saved, or transmitted.
• Saved sightings (anonymous) — when you save a bird sighting to your log, an anonymous record is sent to our server: the species' common and scientific name, the identification confidence, whether it was identified by song or typed by hand, and the date. That record contains no location, no recording, and nothing that identifies you or your device.

3. What stays on your device

Your recordings, sighting locations, night-mode and display preferences, and the downloaded star and satellite data live only on your iPhone. Your life list also lives on your iPhone, but an anonymous species-and-date copy of each saved sighting (described above) is kept on our server. Deleting the app removes everything on the device.

4. How your information is used

• To draw the correct sky for your location and point the AR overlay.
• To identify a bird from a recording you choose to submit.
• To keep an anonymous log of which species the app's users are spotting.

That's all. Your data is never used for advertising, profiling, or tracking.

5. Services that help run the app

These providers process data only to perform the functions above, on our behalf:

• Supabase — hosts the functions that handle bird identification and the shared species illustrations, and stores the anonymous sighting records. The recording you submit is staged in private storage and deleted immediately after identification.
• BirdNET identification service — receives the recording (and the region/season hint) to return the likely species, then the recording is discarded.
• Google Gemini — generates one field-guide illustration per bird species, server-side, shared to everyone. Only the species name is sent; none of your data, location, or recordings are involved.
• CelesTrak — the app downloads public satellite orbital data. Nothing about you is sent.

6. Your choices

You can grant or revoke Location, Microphone, and Camera access at any time in the iPhone Settings → FredSky. Denying them simply disables the related feature — the offline star chart still works. Removing the app clears everything held on your device. The anonymous sighting records on our server carry no identifier, so we cannot tell which ones came from you and they are not removed when you delete the app; if that bothers you, email fred@fleetidy.com and we will gladly clear the log.

7. Children

FredSky is not directed at children and collects no personal information for advertising or tracking from anyone.
